Education
Although the field of health technology assessment (HTA) has been recognized as a critical support to health care policy decisions, it remains underutilized due to a number of systemic barriers. Chief among these is the lack of individuals trained to conduct high quality HTA. In addition, decision-makers are often not equipped to understand and assess HTA results and integrate them into policy decisions.
THETA hopes to address these gaps by:
- developing and teaching graduate-level courses in HTA across departments and faculties within the University of Toronto.
- developing a collaborative program within the University of Toronto to provide HTA specialization at a doctoral level.
- providing important opportunities for students to gain experience and expertise through participation in field evaluations and HTA research.
- providing training opportunities for policy-makers and health service providers in the interpretation and application of HTA.
